Case Study: How Rapidi Technology Helped REMA 1000 Connect 400+ Stores to the HQ

About REMA 1000
REMA 1000 is a multinational discount supermarket chain in the Reitan Group, with hundreds of stores across Norway, Denmark, and Sweden. The concept is based on a franchised discount model: a limited, focused product range, bought in large volumes and sold through semi-independent owners under one brand.

The Business Need

Each REMA 1000 store reported separately and manually to the head office in Horsens, Denmark. There was no shared data backbone that could:

  • Give the head office a clear, up-to-date view of sales across all stores
  • Support economies of scale across 400+ locations
  • Keep product, price, and campaign data aligned between stores and central systems

To get a full overview of the business, REMA 1000 needed a reliable link between every store and the central Microsoft Dynamics NAV system. A data exchange solution was vital.

Key Challenges

As part of a Dynamics NAV implementation, the CEO wanted a fast, simple, and secure way to move data across the entire retail chain:

  • Large data volumes: around 1 million records moving back and forth every day
  • Many data types: products, prices, special offers, campaigns, employees, and sales
  • High need for accuracy: information had to be up to date in every store and at head office

Manual processes and ad-hoc file transfers were not enough for this scale.

As there are 196+ stores (red. 400+) you can imagine there are a lot of data – about 1 million records – going back and forward every day between each store and the central head quarter… We needed all that information to be managed and transferred in an efficient and secure way.
- Lars Ruben Hansen, IT Executive at REMA 1000

The Solution

The integration solution, based on the same technology that underpins Rapidi’s data integration platform, became the data backbone for REMA 1000’s retail setup with Microsoft Dynamics NAV.

It handled all data transfer between the stores and the central server:

  • From stores to head office:
    • Sales data is replicated from each store to the central NAV system
    • Employee-related information sent from each store to the head office
  • From head office to stores:
    • Product and price updates
    • Purchase orders
    • Campaigns and special offers

The integration layer acted as the link between REMA 1000’s stores and the central financial system, ensuring that relevant information was exchanged automatically and securely.

The Results

With this integration in place, REMA 1000 saw clear, tangible benefits:

  • No more duplicate data entry between stores and the head office
  • Always up-to-date data across 162+ locations (update: today they have 400+ stores)
  • Better business overview based on complete, consistent information
  • More efficient work routines in both stores and at the head office
  • Time and cost savings, as valuable resources were freed from manual data tasks
The implementation of the Replicator resulted in more efficient work routines and a better overview about our business. Furthermore, it liberated valuable resources as we could avoid duplicated data entry. All this saves us both time and money. We could just continue concentrating on our core-business.
Lars Ruben Hansen, IT Executive at REMA 1000

For modern retailers, Rapidi continues this approach by providing a stable data backbone between POS, ERP, and CRM, so chains like REMA 1000 can run daily operations with accurate data and focus on serving customers.

In 2023, the retail chain acquired Aldi, which multiplied the need for even more stores and POS being connected and synchronized with their Headquarters.
