Connector
Oracle Database Connector
Read and write Oracle database tables without writing code. This page is about the Oracle database. For the Oracle NetSuite ERP, see the NetSuite connector.
Rapidi connects to the Oracle database through RapidiConnector, a small Windows service installed next to the Oracle Client and its Oracle Call Interface. It reads and writes the tables of the database and schema you name. Oracle 7.3, 8.0.5 to 8.1.7, 9i, 10g and 11g are supported. Oracle NetSuite, the ERP, has its own connector.
- What it connects to
- The Oracle database, versions 7.3, 8.0.5 to 8.1.7, 9i, 10g and 11g.
- Which way the data moves
- Both ways. Rapidi transfers data to and from Oracle.
- What you need
- A machine that can see the database, with RapidiConnector and the Oracle Client installed, and a connection to the database set up in the Oracle Client.
What does this connector actually do?
The short version: RapidiConnector sits next to your Oracle database, reads the layout of the schema you name, and moves rows in and out of its tables on the schedule you set.
| Records it moves | Rows in the tables of the database and schema you name on the connection. Read Design loads the tables and fields so you can map them. |
|---|---|
| Direction | Both ways. The connection transfers data to and from Oracle. |
| Data types | CHAR, VARCHAR2, NCHAR, NVARCHAR2, NUMBER, DATE, LONG and FLOAT. RAW, LONG RAW, ROWID, BLOB, CLOB, NCLOB, BFILE and UROWID are not supported. |
| Versions supported | Oracle 7.3, Oracle 8.0.5 to 8.1.7, Oracle 9i, Oracle 10g and Oracle 11g. |
| How it signs in | A database user ID and password, when the database needs them. You can also name the schema to use. |
| How often it runs | On a schedule you set. The shortest interval depends on your plan, from one hour on Entry down to one minute on Unlimited. |
| What you set up once | Install RapidiConnector and the Oracle Client, create a connection to the database in the Oracle Client, enter its name in MyRapidi, then press Test and Read Design. |
| Not to be confused with | Oracle NetSuite, the cloud ERP, which Rapidi reaches through its own NetSuite connector. |
What goes on your side?
The Oracle database usually lives inside your own network, so Rapidi reaches it through a small service you install once. Nothing is installed inside the database itself.
| What you are comparing | RapidiConnector | Oracle Client |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | A small Windows service you download from MyRapidi | Oracle's own client software, which includes the Oracle Call Interface |
| Where it goes | A machine that can see the database, on an application server or in the DMZ | The same machine as RapidiConnector |
| What it does | Opens a connection out to the Rapidi service, keeps it open, and carries the data between your database and the other system | Lets RapidiConnector reach the database, through a connection you create for each database you transfer to or from |
| What you enter in MyRapidi | The Rapidi Service ID, user ID and password shown in MyRapidi | The name of the Oracle Client connection, the user ID, password and schema, and the Oracle installation folder if it is not on the PATH |
| Ports opened to the internet | None. It calls out, so nothing is opened inward | None |
For a local database on the same machine, leave the Server Connect field empty and enter the user ID and password only. The installation folder is the one that holds OCIW32.DLL.
Where does the Oracle database show up in a Rapidi integration?
The Oracle database is sometimes a system in its own right, and sometimes the database underneath another system.

Frequently asked questions
Can Rapidi connect to an Oracle database?
Yes. Oracle has its own connection type in MyRapidi. You name the Oracle Client connection and the schema, test the connection and read the design, and the transfers are then configured on screen rather than written as code.
Is this the same as the Oracle NetSuite connector?
No. This connector reads and writes the Oracle database. Oracle NetSuite is a cloud ERP, and Rapidi reaches it through a separate NetSuite connector.
Which Oracle versions are supported?
Oracle 7.3, Oracle 8.0.5 to 8.1.7, Oracle 9i, Oracle 10g and Oracle 11g. If you run a newer release, tell us which one and we will confirm it.
Can Rapidi write into Oracle, or only read from it?
Both. The Oracle connection transfers data to and from the database, so an Oracle table can be the source of a transfer or its target.
What has to be installed on our side?
RapidiConnector, a small service you download from MyRapidi, and the Oracle Client with its Oracle Call Interface on the same machine. In the Oracle Client you create a connection for each database you want to transfer to or from.
Which Oracle data types are supported?
CHAR, VARCHAR2, NCHAR, NVARCHAR2, NUMBER, DATE, LONG and FLOAT. RAW, LONG RAW, ROWID, BLOB, CLOB, NCLOB, BFILE and UROWID are not supported.
What does the Oracle Database connector cost?
Nothing on its own. Rapidi is priced per subscription plan rather than per connector, so adding an Oracle database does not change the licence.
Is an Oracle database one of your systems?
Tell us which Oracle version you run and what it has to connect to, and we will tell you plainly what the setup involves.
