Keep Data on Your Own Network: Hybrid Integration Between Local Systems

Transfers between local systems, run on your own server

When two or more of your systems run inside your own network, the Rapidi Hybrid engine moves the data directly between them. The data stays local, and you still set everything up online in MyRapidi.

A Hybrid installation puts the Rapidi engine on a server in your own network. When you connect two or more local systems, that engine does the actual transfers directly between them, so the data stays local, also between sites joined by your own VPN. Hybrid is not used to connect a local system with a cloud system. That is what RapidiConnector does.

What you install
The Rapidi Hybrid engine, a Windows service on your own server.
Where transfers run
On that server, directly between your local systems.
What needs the internet
Only activating the changes you make in MyRapidi.

How does the Hybrid engine move data between local systems?

The engine runs next to your systems and reads from one and writes to the other itself. Nothing is routed through the Rapidi cloud service.

How the Rapidi Hybrid engine connects local systems Inside your network, the Rapidi Hybrid engine runs on your own server and moves data directly between two local systems, such as Dynamics NAV and SQL Server, and over your VPN to a local system at a second site. Only configuration and status pass through the firewall to MyRapidi in the cloud. IN THE CLOUD MyRapidi Set up transfers, monitor them and get alerts YOUR FIREWALLYOUR RECORDS STAY INSIDE YOUR NETWORK Configuration and status Not the data you transfer Rapidi Hybrid engine Runs the transfers. Log and schedules kept locally Local system For example Dynamics NAV Local system For example SQL Server Your VPN SECOND SITE Local system at the other site
The Hybrid engine moves the data between your local systems. Only configuration and status go to MyRapidi.

The Hybrid engine is the Rapidi engine itself, Rapidi.exe or Rapidi64.exe, installed as a Windows service on a server in your network. When a transfer runs, the engine reads from the source system and writes to the destination system directly. When both systems are in your network, the data does not leave it.

Local in this sense also covers sites you have joined with your own VPN. The data travels between the sites over that VPN, not over the Rapidi cloud service. Because the data takes the short route, transfers are also faster than going through the central service.

Standard or Hybrid: which setup fits?

Both are the same Rapidi service, set up in MyRapidi. What decides it is where your systems are. A local system that has to talk to a cloud system uses the standard setup with RapidiConnector. Two or more local systems can use Hybrid.

What runs on your server and what stays in MyRapidi?

The work and the data stay local. Setting up and watching over the transfers stays online.

A Hybrid installation, part by part.
TransfersRun by the Hybrid engine on your server, directly between your local systems.
Log, schedules and RTIStored in a local MySQL database on your server.
Active configurationRead from a local file, so the engine runs independent of your internet connection.
Connections, transfers and groupsSet up online in MyRapidi and stored centrally.
Read DesignRuns locally. The resulting table and field design is sent to MyRapidi and stored centrally. That is the structure of your system, not its records.
PasswordsEncrypted by the local Hybrid engine. The central Rapidi service cannot decrypt them.
Monitoring and alertsIn MyRapidi, as with any Rapidi service. The dashboard shows the computer name and Windows service name of your Hybrid engine.
InstallationWith the Rapidi Service Controller. Administrator rights are only needed to install.
Upgrades and tracesRapidi Support can upgrade the engine remotely and run traces, but only when you ask for it or accept it.

How does a change in MyRapidi reach your server?

Three steps, and the last two take about ten seconds.

  1. Make the change in MyRapidi

Edit connections, transfers or groups online, from anywhere, exactly as with any Rapidi service.

  2. Press Activate Changes

MyRapidi writes the configuration to a compressed file and downloads it to your server.

  3. The engine reloads it

The Hybrid engine makes the new file its active configuration and runs from it, typically about 10 seconds after you pressed the button.

When is Hybrid the right choice?

Hybrid makes most sense when the systems you connect all sit inside your own network.

Typical reasons to choose a Hybrid installation.
Several local systems to keep in stepFor example several Dynamics NAV or AX databases, or SQL Server, across your sites. See data replication.
Data must not leave your networkWith both source and destination in your network, the transfers stay inside it.
The internet is not guaranteedThe engine runs from its local configuration, so local transfers keep running without an internet connection.
Remote offices on your VPNSites joined by your VPN count as local, and the data travels between them over that VPN. A RapidiConnector at a remote office can compress and pack the data on the way.
A local system and a cloud systemNot a Hybrid case. Use RapidiConnector, described on On-Premise Systems.

Frequently asked questions

What is a Hybrid installation?

A Rapidi service where the engine that runs the transfers is installed as a Windows service on your own server. You still set up and monitor everything online in MyRapidi.

Does our data leave our network?

No, when the systems you connect are all local. The Hybrid engine moves the data directly between them, including between sites joined by your own VPN. What goes to MyRapidi is the configuration, status and the table and field design, not your records.

Can Hybrid connect a local system to Salesforce or another cloud system?

No. Hybrid is for connecting local systems with each other. Connecting a local system to a cloud system is what RapidiConnector does, described on the On-Premise Systems page.

Do transfers keep running if the internet connection is down?

Yes. The engine reads its active configuration from a local file and keeps its log and schedules in a local database. The internet is only needed to activate changes you make in MyRapidi.

How do configuration changes reach our server?

You make the change in MyRapidi and press Activate Changes. The configuration is written to a compressed file, downloaded to your server and reloaded by the engine, typically in about 10 seconds.

Can the Rapidi cloud service read our passwords?

No. Passwords are encrypted by the local Hybrid engine, and the central Rapidi service cannot decrypt them.

Does Rapidi Support work on our server?

Only when you ask. Rapidi Support can upgrade the Hybrid engine remotely and run traces to solve an issue, but only at your request or with your acceptance.

What does it take to install?

A Windows server in your network that can reach the systems you connect. The engine is installed with the Rapidi Service Controller, and administrator rights are only needed during installation.

Which plans include Hybrid?

The Enterprise and Unlimited plans.
