Connector
Dynamics C5 Connector
Read and write Microsoft Dynamics C5 data without writing code, whether C5 runs on SQL Server or on its own native database.
Rapidi connects to Microsoft Dynamics C5 through its C5 connection, which works on both databases C5 can run on: Microsoft SQL Server and the native C5 database. Dynamics C5 2008 and 4.0 are supported, and older versions on request. The connection runs through RapidiConnector on a machine that can reach the C5 database.
- What it connects to
- Microsoft Dynamics C5, including older C5 versions, on SQL Server or on the native C5 database.
- Which way the data moves
- Both ways. In the Salesforce standard template, accounts get a number to use as the C5 customer number, and C5 posted invoices and ledger entries go back to Salesforce.
- What you need
- RapidiConnector on a machine that can reach the C5 database. A native database also needs ODBC access in your C5 licence.
What does this connector actually do?
| Records it moves | The Salesforce standard template links Salesforce accounts to C5 customers, and an optional Salesforce app holds C5 posted invoices and customer ledger entries. An add-on copies C5 sales orders. |
|---|---|
| Direction | Both ways. The standard template sends account data towards C5 and posted invoices and ledger entries out of it. |
| Versions listed | Dynamics C5 2008 and Dynamics C5 4.0. Older versions are also supported, so ask us. |
| Databases | Both the SQL Server version of C5 and the native C5 database. |
| Data types | Strings, integers, decimals, dates, option fields and long text. BLOB fields are not supported. |
| Company | Chosen on the connection by name. In most C5 installations it is DAT. |
| How often it runs | On a schedule you set. The shortest interval depends on your plan, from one hour on Entry down to one minute on Unlimited. |
| What you set up once | Install RapidiConnector, pick the database type, point the connection at the database and the company, press Test and run Read Design. |
Which C5 database do you run?
C5 comes in two database flavours, and the connector handles both. What changes is what goes on your side.
| What you are comparing | C5 on SQL Server | Native C5 database |
|---|---|---|
| What Rapidi reaches | The C5 database on your SQL Server | The C5 database file, for example C5data.dat |
| Installed on your side | RapidiConnector, and possibly the MS-SQL client | RapidiConnector and the Dynamics C5 ODBC driver |
| Licence | Nothing extra listed | ODBC access in your C5 licence |
| What you enter | The SQL Server name, the database name and the sign-in | The full path to the database file and to the C5 client folder |
| How it signs in | Windows authentication, or a user ID and password | A user ID and password, if the database asks for one |
RapidiConnector opens its connection outward, towards the Rapidi servers, so nothing on your network has to accept connections in.
Which integrations use this connector?
Rapidi has a standard template for Salesforce and Dynamics C5. When a C5 company moves on to Dynamics NAV or Business Central, those have connectors of their own.

Customer story
Has anyone done this before?
Contour Design is one. Rapidi has been its integration partner from the very start, first with Dynamics C5, then through the move to Dynamics NAV, and most recently the upgrade to Dynamics 365 Business Central.

Frequently asked questions
Can Rapidi connect to Dynamics C5?
Yes. Dynamics C5 has its own connection in Rapidi, and the transfers are configured rather than written as code.
Does it work with the native C5 database, or only SQL Server?
Both. For the native database you need ODBC access in your C5 licence and the Dynamics C5 ODBC driver on the machine running RapidiConnector.
Which Dynamics C5 versions are supported?
Dynamics C5 2008 and Dynamics C5 4.0. Older versions are also supported, so ask us about yours.
What gets installed on our side?
RapidiConnector on a machine that can reach the C5 database. SQL Server installations may also need the MS-SQL client, and native installations need the C5 ODBC driver.
Which C5 fields can Rapidi move?
Strings, integers, decimals, dates, option fields and long text. BLOB fields are not supported.
We plan to move off C5. Can Rapidi stay with us?
Yes. Contour Design started with Rapidi on Dynamics C5, then moved to Dynamics NAV and later to Dynamics 365 Business Central with Rapidi as its integration partner throughout.
How often does the data move?
On a schedule you set. The shortest interval comes from your plan, from one hour on Entry down to one minute on Unlimited.
What does the Dynamics C5 connector cost?
Nothing on its own. Rapidi is priced per subscription plan rather than per connector, so adding Dynamics C5 does not change the licence.
Is your Dynamics C5 on the list?
Tell us the version, the database and what sits on the other side, and we will tell you plainly what the setup involves.
